Pool excavation is the first job on a new in-ground pool. We dig the hole to the plan and dig sheet that you or your pool company provide. That can be a fiberglass shell, a vinyl liner pool or a concrete pool. We hold the floor and walls to that plan. Then we handle the dirt that comes out of the hole. Our end is the dirt. The pool itself, plumbing, electrical, concrete, decking and fencing come from other trades. On an ongoing ranch project near Sulphur, we dug a swimming pool. That job is part of our work around Sulphur.
We take pool excavation jobs on acreage and rural home sites within about 50 miles of Ada. That circle takes in Sulphur, Stratford, Seminole, Pauls Valley, Shawnee, Ardmore and Durant. The dig runs on a 30,000-pound excavator. The same machine handles excavation work around Ada and in-ground storm shelter digs. Trees and stumps on the pool spot come out first, roots and all. Have your dig sheet handy for the estimate. We price the dig after we see the ground and the way in. Call (580) 344-7473 for a free estimate on your pool excavation.

We dig from the plan and dig sheet for your pool. Each pool type digs a little differently. A fiberglass pool maker's guide says installers typically allow 12 to 16 inches of over-dig. That hole also goes about 4 inches deeper than the pool for a stone base. The same guide says the excavation step is similar for concrete pools. One vinyl liner kit's manual puts typical over-dig at 24 to 36 inches, set by the wall and braces. The same manual has the hole dug 2 inches below the finished depth for base material. We hold the floor and walls to the numbers on your sheet.
Have the pool spot marked out before dig day. That vinyl liner manual has the deep end painted on the ground to guide the dig. The same manual calls for a wide access area for the digging equipment. Plan a clear path from the drive to the pool spot for our 30,000-pound excavator. We clear trees and stumps out of that path when they block it. HomeAdvisor says hand digging can triple or quadruple the cost when equipment cannot reach the site. Before the dig, we file an OKIE811 locate request so utilities mark their buried lines.
A pool hole turns out a lot of dirt. HomeAdvisor figures about 114 cubic yards for a 16 x 32 foot pool at a six-foot average depth. A 12 x 24 foot pool comes to about 64 cubic yards, and a 20 x 40 to about 178. Over-dig for the shell or wall braces adds to that. A fiberglass pool maker's guide says to settle where the dirt goes ahead of dig day. The dirt either gets hauled off or stays on the property. Finding a place to dump it often takes time and can cost money, the guide says.
You choose where the dirt goes. We spread it over low ground or stack it for later use. That is part of our dirt work on acreage. HomeAdvisor says reusing the dug soil for landscaping saves disposal fees. When the dirt has to leave, it gets hauled off. That vinyl liner manual wants the pool 6 to 12 inches higher than the existing grade. That way water drains away from the pool. We finish our end with rough grading around the pool site. Tell us at the estimate how you want the dirt handled.
HomeAdvisor says pool excavation costs between $500 and $3,020, with an average of $2,500. Large or custom pools can reach $4,500. HomeAdvisor also puts pool excavation at $8 to $25 per cubic yard. It calls pool size a key cost driver and bases its size table on a six-foot average depth. Those are published market ranges, not our price. HomeAdvisor says access and ground material move the price too. Our Oklahoma excavation cost guide covers trenching and foundation digs as well. We price your dig after we see the site, and the estimate is free.
The ground under the pool spot changes the dig. Around Ada, the Cross Timbers ground is sandy topsoil over reddish clay. Southwest toward Sulphur, the Arbuckles turn the ground to limestone and dolomite. HomeAdvisor puts sand at $8 to $40 per cubic yard, higher when the sides need shoring. Its rocky ground figure is $40 to $100 per cubic yard, more with blasting. Rock slows a dig and raises the price. HomeAdvisor advises having a contractor check the ground before excavation. We check the soil and rock on your pool spot before we price the dig.
