Clearing, Dirt and Demolition Work in Noble

We do land clearing in Noble, Oklahoma, and on the Cleveland County acreage around the town. Noble sits on US-77 near the east bank of the Canadian River, about six miles south of Norman. Our home base is Ada, and Noble lies about 47 miles northwest of it, measured in a straight line. That keeps the town inside the circle of about 50 miles we serve. In 1984 the governor named the town the Rose Rock Capital. Rose rocks turn up in outcrops of a reddish rock locally called the Garber sandstone. The Oklahoma Historical Society says they occur in large numbers east of town. The county around it is rolling prairie with rich river bottom soil.

Our land clearing runs on machines from start to finish. The Cat D6 dozer pushes the trees down and shoves the brush into piles. Next, the 30,000-pound excavator digs under each stump and lifts it out with its root ball. Our tracked skid steer works the tight corners and the final cleanup. Brush is burned on site only where the rules allow it, and hauled off where they do not. We backfill every stump hole, then rough grade the whole cleared area. What is left is open dirt, ready to seed or to build on. For a free estimate after we look at your Noble ground, call (580) 344-7473.

New homes and shops on Noble acreage

By 1970, Noble had 2,241 residents and had become a bedroom community for Norman and Oklahoma City. The April 2020 census counted 6,985 people, about three times the 1970 number. Noble is now the third-largest city in Cleveland County, behind Norman and Moore. Its zoning still includes an A-1 Agriculture district and an R-E Residential Estates district. If you plan a house or a shop on acreage here, the timber has to come off first. The stumps have to come out too. A stump left in the ground can stop a dozer cold on a later pass. A buried one rots under whatever sits on top of it.

The residential building code is clear about a house site. All vegetation and topsoil must come out of the area inside the foundation walls. We pull every stump with the excavator and backfill each hole, so nothing rots under the slab later. Then we shape level pads for houses and shops on the cleared ground. Your slab crew takes over from a rough, level pad. Inside city limits, Noble requires a building permit for new construction. Almost every permitted project then gets inspected by the city building inspector. The inspection count depends on the job, and a storage building gets fewer than a new home.

Ranch country since before the Land Run

Before the 1889 Land Run, the Noble area sat in the Unassigned Lands, and ranching ran its economy. In 1898, the Oklahoma College Experiment Station put in a cattle-dipping vat at Noble. It bathed cattle coming into Oklahoma Territory and helped keep Texas fever from spreading. For several years, the town was a major shipping point for cattle from both sides of the Canadian River. Cattle still graze the county today. The 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 16,740 cattle and calves in Cleveland County. It counted 2,056 horses and ponies as well. The average farm in the county ran 104 acres.

A new fence needs open ground along the whole line. Our fence line clearing for new wire takes the trees and stumps off the line. After that, the fence builder sets posts in clean dirt. Cedar comes out the same way, root ball included. We handle cedar removal on horse pasture and cattle ground alike. Our cedar record includes a USDA contract that covered 140 acres. A stock pond puts water where the herd grazes. We dig stock ponds for cattle and horses on cleared ground. Our ongoing ranch job near Sulphur has four new ponds on it so far.

Which permits apply to clearing land in Noble?

Inside city limits, the City of Noble issues a land disturbance permit. The application splits the work at one acre, into major and ordinary land disturbance. Clearing and grubbing, the pulling of stumps and roots, is one of the listed types. The fee is $250, plus $20 for each acre or part of an acre. The form also asks which erosion controls go in, such as silt fence or sediment traps. Federal rules require Noble to run a citywide stormwater program against polluted runoff in its creeks and streams. Check with City Hall before any dirt moves on ground inside the city.

The Canadian River forms the west edge of Noble. A suspension bridge went up over the river there in 1898. The flooding river destroyed it in 1903 or 1904. The city names significant flood zones along the Canadian River and Dave Blue Creek. New construction in those zones must sit above the base flood elevation. The city urges builders to stay out of them entirely. Outside city limits, ask the county about a floodplain development permit before building near the river. On low ground, land grading after the clearing turns water away from the house site. We put in an OKIE811 locate request before any digging starts.

Noble FAQ

Questions From Noble Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Noble. Don't see yours? Call us, we're happy to help.

Call (580) 344-7473

Do you work outside the Noble city limits?
Yes. Rural and commercial jobs suit us best. Around Noble, that takes in the ground toward Slaughterville on the south and Etowah to the east. It also covers the McClain County side of the river, around Goldsby and Washington. As the crow flies, Noble is about 47 miles northwest of Ada, inside our usual circle.
How much does it cost to clear an acre near Noble?
Every tract prices differently, so our estimate comes from looking at your property, and it is free. LawnStarter's national guide lists $733 to $2,333 an acre for lightly forested land. For heavily wooded land, the same guide shows $3,395 to $6,155 an acre. Timber size and where the debris goes both move the number.
Can you burn the brush piles near Noble?
Only where the rules allow it. The Oklahoma DEQ counts Cleveland County as part of the Oklahoma City metro area. There, a land clearing burn has to use an air curtain incinerator. A county burn ban can last up to 14 days, and violators face fines up to $500. Any brush that cannot be burned legally is hauled off.
